We are looking for a Director of Civil Engineering Services.

The Director of Civil Engineering is a creative problem solver who understands how to balance the civil engineering/design process with the realities of a client’s needs and the financial goals of KZF Design.

This requires a broad understanding and experience with multiple project types including highway, bridge, infrastructure, site utilities, site grading, site layout, parking and Department of Transportation, an appreciation of the fiscal and financial aspects of a project, an ability to filter out the salient and critical aspects of a client’s needs and the vision to translate that information into a physical form that meets and exceeds the client’s expectations.

The Director of Civil Engineering has an appreciation for the creative goals of the design process, and works with all team members to development and implement civil engineering solutions that meet the constraints of time, budget, schedule and client expectations. This person is a good listener, an experienced communicator, a mentor, a leader, a teacher, a trusted collaborator and a “caretaker of the vision” of KZF Design. Maintaining a recognized presence in the civil engineering community, both inside and outside of our region is expected and encouraged.

The Director can delegate and leverage skill sets through mentoring, coaching and training staff. They can see the big picture without becoming labored or entrenched in the minute details of a solution. KZF believes in the “Promise of Design” and delivering on its promises. The responsibilities of the Director of Civil Engineering include, but are not limited to, the following:
  •  Keeping KZF Design’s promise of design and client satisfaction
  • Supervising and providing technical oversight to KZF’s civil engineers and technical staff
  • Designing, engineering and overseeing a broad range of site/civil project types
  • Demonstrating experience with both public and private projects
  • Working within a full range of and with all company disciplines (a multidisciplinary environment)
  • Working with KZF’s senior leadership to market projects to clients, including providing marketing support, proposal input and participation in client interviews
  • Willing to be in responsible charge and have substantive control over all KZF civil services
  • Serving the external client by serving the internal client
  • Extensive experience supervising engineers, designers and technical personnel
  • Actively participating as a Senior Engineer for selected projects
  • Participating in internal and external design charrettes and presentations
  • Active involvement in the local engineering community
  • Mentoring, providing guidance and be a professional educator for civil staff

Do you meet these specifications?

Required

  • 15+ years of experience in the civil engineering industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, ABET accredited
  • PE License, NCEE certified with ability to be licensed in any State
  • Demonstrated strong engineering skills in civil engineering
  • Proven experience leading and managing civil design/engineering teams
  • Track record of success leading civil engineers and technical staff for an A/E firm
  • Engineering experience on a wide variety of project types for a diverse range of clients in both the private and public markets
  • Experience in speaking and writing

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Involvement in professional development: continuing education, engineering design trends, new products and materials, and advancements in energy efficiency
  • Ability to work with CAD software programs such as Microstation GEOPAK and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Demonstrated strong design and presentation skills
  • Experience mentoring junior engineering professionals
  • Demonstrated progressive career development

Desired

  • Proficient in HydroFlow drainage design software, USACE HEC-RAS hydraulic modeling program and FHWA HY-8 culvert and bridge drainage modeling program
  • Demonstrated leadership in professional organizations
  • Project Management Professional® (PMP) certification
  • Experience providing marketing and project interview support
