The ideal Director of Mechanical Engineering Services is a creative problem solver who understands how to balance the MEP design process with the realities of a client’s needs and the financial goals of KZF Design.

The Director of Mechanical Engineering Services requires a broad understanding and experience with multiple building types, an appreciation of the fiscal and financial aspects of a project, an ability to filter out the salient and critical aspects of a client’s needs and the vision to translate that information into a physical form that meets and exceeds the client’s expectations.

The Director of Mechanical Engineering Services has an appreciation for the creative goals of the design process, and works with all team members to development and implement MEP solutions that meet the constraints of time, budget, schedule and client expectations. This person is a good listener, an experienced communicator, a mentor, a leader, a teacher, a trusted collaborator and a “caretaker of the vision” of KZF Design. Maintaining a recognized presence in the Engineering community, both inside and outside of our region is expected and encouraged.

The ideal candidate is able to delegate and leverage skill sets through mentoring, coaching and training staff. They are able to see the big picture without becoming labored or entrenched in the minute details of a solution. KZF believes in the “Promise of Design” and delivering on its promises. The responsibilities of the Mechanical CAD Technician include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Keeping KZF’s promise of design and client satisfaction
  • Supervising and providing technical oversight to KZF’s engineers and technical staff
  • Designing, engineering and overseeing a broad range of M&P project types
  • Demonstrating experience with both public and private projects
  • Working within a full range of budgets
  • Working closely with all company disciplines
  • Working with KZF’s Senior Vice-Presidents to market projects to clients, including providing marketing support, proposal input and participation in client interviews
  • Reinforcing KZF’s brand in the marketplace
  • Willing to be in responsible charge and have substantive control over all KZF M&P services
  • Serving the external client by serving the internal client
  • Extensive experience supervising engineers, designers and technical personnel
  • Actively participating as a Senior Engineer for selected projects
  • Participating in internal and external design charrettes and presentations
  • Leading the development of and mentor young designers in the firm
  • Estimating Design hour budgets and working within established budget constraints
  • Building an external network within the Engineering community
  • Active involvement in the local Engineering community
  • Mentoring, provide guidance and be a professional educator for M&P staff

Do you meet these specifications?

Required

  • 20+ years of experience in the A/E building design industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, ABET accredited
  • PE License, NCEES record with ability to be licensed in any State
  • Demonstrated strong engineering skills in mechanical and plumbing engineering
  • Proven experience leading and managing M&P design and engineering for buildings
  • Track record of success leading M&P engineers and technical staff for an A or A/E firm
  • Engineering experience on a wide variety of building types for a diverse range of clients in both the Private and Public marketplaces
  • Knowledgeable on current Building Codes and related technical criteria
  • Experience in speaking and writing

Preferred

  • LEED AP
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel
  • Involvement in professional development: continuing education, engineering design trends, new products and materials, and advancements in energy efficiency
  • Ability to work with CAD software programs such as REVIT, REVIT MEP, AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Demonstrated strong design and presentation skills
  • Experience mentoring junior engineering professionals
  • Demonstrated progressive career development
  • Willing to travel

Desired

  • REVIT and/or REVIT MEP proficient
  • AutoCAD proficient
  • MicroStation proficient
  • Demonstrated leadership in professional organizations
