The Director of KZF Design’s Education Studio is a charismatic and collaborative strategic thinker with business acumen and an entrepreneurial inclination.

This person is intelligent with a keen sense of inquiry and an ability to inspire the same in others by being a good communicator. He or she possesses confidence, is positive and outgoing, with a strong social kinesthetic sense.

The Director of Education Studio should be a thought leader in the industry. They should be a visionary with an eye to the future of higher education design and its opportunities and challenges, and insight in to the ways design can expand opportunities and conquer challenges. A passion for design is paramount.

Experienced in the higher education market, this person is a connected networker who knows how to hunt for good projects. He or she has an established reputation in the market, a reputation based upon integrity and capability. He or she has the ability to foster a sense of camaraderie and high morale.

The ideal candidate is goal-oriented, client-centered and open-minded. He or she has experience managing people and projects in a manner which maximizes the outcome for all involved and invites future work.

The responsibilities of the Director of the Education Studio include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • “Make and Keep the Promise” to clients and staff
  • Set and achieve overall division strategy and objectives
  • Maintain and improve division profitability through meeting/exceeding sales goals
  • Increase market share in education market
  • Strengthen relationships with current clients/Develop new relationships/expand client base
  • Establish clear brand identity internally and externally
  • Oversee project management
  • Facilitate charrettes and provide overall project vision in collaboration with clients
  • Manage internal team of professionals and direct reports
  • Assist in the identification and hiring of team members
  • Develop White Papers and/or presentations and deliver them at industry events.

Do you meet these specifications?


  • Registered Architect
  • Minimum 5 years managing a design studio
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • Strong Design skills
  • Demonstrated Business Development skills (expanding market share, meeting sales goals, growing client base, etc.)
  • Demonstrated career stability and progression
  • Track record of success with documented results
  • Strong written communication skills, public speaking skills and experience (winning project shortlist interview skills)


  • Higher Education market experience
  • Project Management Professional® (PMP) certification
  • Additional professional certifications/registrations preferred (i.e., LEED)
  • Active in professional/industry associations (AIA, SCUP, USGBC, etc.)
  • Demonstrated leadership in professional and /or civic organizations


  • Comfortable with some travel
  • Active in local/community organizations
