We are looking for a junior mechanical designer.

The Junior Mechanical Designer is a creative self-starter who accepts the responsibilities of mechanical document production for assigned projects and provides CAD document support to other production teams as may be needed.

The Junior Mechanical Designer provides support for all areas of mechanical and plumbing document production, from concept development through final design.

Working to achieve the document production goals within the constraints of time, budget and client expectations, the Junior Mechanical Designer is a get-it done team player, who takes pride in having the following strong characteristics and traits: self-starter, able to manage parallel project assignments, willing to learn and become proficient in multiple CAD software applications, proactive in seeking advice and counsel, organized, detail oriented, good written and verbal skills, and enjoys the work they do.

This person is able to work closely with KZF Design’s engineers and other technical staff to develop and produce design and production documents using REVIT, AutoCAD and MicroStation software. As a diverse group of multidisciplinary professionals working together to create competitive solutions for our clients, the Junior Mechanical Designer is an integral part of that effort. The responsibilities of the Junior Mechanical Designer include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Keeping KZF’s promise of design
  • Helping our clients achieve their goals
  • Providing support for mechanical & plumbing (M&P) design and document production
  • Working with guidance from the Director of M&P Services, Engineers and/or technical staff to meet project manager, client and company goals and project deadlines
  • Coordinating M&P document production with all professional disciplines assigned to the projects
  • Being proficient in multiple CAD platforms and other discipline drafting standards
  • Maintaining document conformance with KZF standards and quality requirements
  • Preparing documents to the directed level of detail
  • Checking and being responsible for the technical accuracy of your work
  • Providing CAD support to other disciplines and production teams
  • Working efficiently within established time constraints
  • Willing to work as needed to meet deadlines
  • Proactive in seeking advice and instructions from other staff
  • Assisting with development and maintenance of Mechanical CAD standards

Do you meet these specifications?


  • Associate degree in mechanical, electrical or architectural engineering technology, or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of experience producing 2D or 3D CAD drawings
  • Experience working in teams
  • Understanding of basic engineering principles


  • Proficiency in REVIT and REVIT MEP
  • Experience working for an Architectural/Engineering firm
  • Working knowledge of mechanical building systems
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering isometrics, piping and equipment layouts
  • Experience managing multiple assignments at one time
  • Good oral and written skills
  • Good typing and keyboard skills
  • Willing to put in the effort to meet project deadlines


  • Experience working for an HVAC contractor
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and/or MicroStation 3D
