First built in the 1830s, the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption was originally Covington’s first Catholic Church. The community requested that the Diocese of Covington maintain the sanctuary’s character by restoring and refurbishing the interior and exterior rather than entirely remodeling the structure. In response, under the direction of architect Bill Brown of Colorado Springs, KZF provided architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural design to meet the unique needs of this iconic structure. The overall scope of work included the conservation of liturgical paintings, cleaning and repairs to the exterior masonry and gargoyles, repairs to the stained glass, interior cleaning and painting, and reconstruction of the pews.

The project was honored with a Preservation Award from the Cincinnati Preservation Association.
