KZF provided Architecture, MEP, structural, civil engineering and interior design for a new 17,500 SF fire station near historic downtown Troy, OH, which is replacing a functionally obsolete building a block from the new fire station site. The project program includes four apparatus bays, day room, gear room, state of the art decontamination areas, admin offices, public and crew rest rooms, triage room, kitchen / dining room, dorm area, locker room, fitness room, training / EOC room and associated support areas.
Due to the compact urban site bounded by streets on three sides, as well as the need to blend in with the areas historic architecture, a 2-story solution was designed which addressed functional needs, as well as allowed the building massing and detailing to seamlessly blend in with its surrounding neighborhood.
The project also included managing services related to hazardous materials abatement and demolition of an existing turn of the century, four-story apartment building, as well as geotechnical studies for the site which were complicated by the site’s past history as part of a canal system in the early 1900’s.
